Home Hidden In The Alps - Ebenalp, Switzerland

High in the Swiss alps, this is a mountain hut called Ebenalp. They say you should set your watch back ten years when you enter this region, known as Appenzell. Quaint and rustic, the old hut is built into a cliff at about 5,000 feet just below a mountain peak. Today, Ebenalp welcomes touring hikers. It offers cheap dorm beds and hot, hearty plates of Rösti — Switzerland’s addictive cheesy hashbrowns. I’t s run by an elderly couple and their five children and the guest book goes back to 1940. Hammetschwand Elevator

The Hammetschwand Lift is the highest exterior elevator of Europe and is located in Switzerland. It connects a spectacular rock path with the lookout point Hammetschwand on the Bürgenstock plateau overlooking Lake Lucerne. Its attractiveness was enhanced by the spectacular path along the vertical rock face and by an outdoor open lift. To this day the lift and the path have lost none of their attraction. The new lift was built and opened by the Schindler Group. It whisks passengers 153 meters up to the summit of the Hammetschwand in less than one minute. [Wiki]

Beautiful Castle Thun

The medieval castle of Thun is a major attraction at the entrance of the Bernese Oberland. In this symbol of power remained almost unchanged there is also the so-called Knights' Hall, one of the few boardrooms remaining from the Middle Ages, the ancient castle of Zaeringen Kibourg, massive building which dates from 1182, the castle , which is the most remarkable historical monument. Engelberg is a resort town and municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. Besides the town of Engelberg, the municipality also includes the settlements of Grafenort, Obermatt and Schwand.

The Swiss National Park is located in the canton of Graubünden in the east of Switzerland between Zernez, S-chanf, Scuol and the Fuorn Pass in the Engadin valley on the border with Italy. It is part of the worldwide UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Lake Lucerne in Switzerland

Lake Lucerne is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country.The lake has a complicated shape, with bends and arms reaching from the city of Lucerne into the mountains. Much of the shoreline rises steeply into mountains up to 1,500 m above the lake, resulting in many picturesque views including those of Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus.It is possible to circumnavigate the lake by road, though the route is slow, twisted, and goes through tunnels part of the way. Steamers and other passenger boats ply between the different towns on the lake. It is a popular tourist destination, both for native Swiss and foreigners, and there are many hotels and resorts along the shores.

Amazing St. Beatus Caves

The St. Beatus Caves are an extensive cave network located in the Switzerland near the village of Beatenberg, above Lake Thun. An Augustinian monastery was established near the mouth of the caves. Saint Beatus of Lungern took up hermitage near the entrance of the cave system, probably in the ninth century. Today, approximately one kilometer of the cave system has been opened and illuminated for tourist access; the monastery site is now occupied by a restaurant and gift shop. [Wiki]

Amazing Giessbach Falls

Giessbach Falls spilled into the light blue Lake Brienz. Nearby the falls was a historic hotel. Although the falls is said to tumble 500m in height over serveral tiers. Whatever the case, this provided us a waterfalling excuse to do something else in the Bernese Oberland area besides Lauterbrunnen Valley. [source]

Beautiful Solvay Hut

The Solvay Hut is a mountain hut located on the north-eastern ridge (Hörnli Ridge) of the Matterhorn, near Zermatt in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The Hörnli Hut lying on the same ridge is the starting point of the normal route to the summit. Some great place to see. [Wiki]

Stone Bridge, Switzerland

Wherever the waters of the Jura tried to carve their way through the pleats of the Jura, gorges were created. And so it is with the Gorges de l'Areuse. Loudly splashing, the mountain stream Areuse is channeled through its gorge. A daring hiking path has been pinned to the cliffside to give hikers a good view of this natural wonder. Source
